Diane and Peter:
I've just finally had a chance to review the Serials and Acquisitions
enhancement problem statements. I was happy to see so many of the
issues identified by the Law Users Group on these lists. I have a
couple of additional comments about them.
I note that some of these issues are included in the Acquisitions
enhancements list and not on Serials list. Perhaps this was a work
around between the enhancement groups? However, I'd like to see a
consolidated list of "Claiming issues," also perhaps a navigation
enhancement list, between Acquisitions and Serials. It is one module
after all. Endeavor's development focus would be simplified, I
believe. I think we need both enhancement groups because it gives us
the opportunity to list more enhancements, but as an aid to
development a list (even if informal) of "shared interests" overlap
would help to add emphasis.
Other areas where we (Law users) have problems with claims:
- component level information does not print (on Acq list)
For instance, we have some titles that have multiple parts, i.e. Tiel
1, Tiel 2, etc. which have separate check in components because of
different periodicity. When we claim nothing comes over from the
component title to indicate which part we are claiming.
A similar situation is when you perhaps you are claiming an annual
index for a title. The printed claim has no indication that what you
are claiming is the index, not an issue.
- no differentiation in generic titles. More bibliographic
information to print on claims should be an option.
We deal with many Mexican and South American vendors that don't pay
attention to any kind of purchase order number! We have many
official gazettes from these vendors that may all have the same
generic title, i.e. Periodico official. Because we cannot specify
additional information the printed claims are practically useless for
these vendors. You can't even tell for which Mexican state we are
claiming!
- A basic piece of functionality missing that I do not see mentioned
in your list of enhancements:
The component title is now part of the problem list display, but you
cannot click on it to jump to the component! This is one of the
reasons that we still do our own SQL so that we can at least copy
paste from our component to retrieve the list to look at the current
check in and history. This is one of the top enhancements requested
by the Law SIG. I did note the ability to jump from the PO to
component in the Acq list, but did I miss this navigational
necessity?
Thanks for all the efforts that you and the enhancement groups do for
the users.
