Hi Andrea,
I did attend the "Ask the Board" meeting. There was a lot of discussion
about the questions that you asked. Here's what I understood was being
proposed.
Yes, North American institutions can join ELUNA, and yes, there is a
membership fee of $150. The ELUNA president was there, and when about
joining she did say that people could still participate to a certain
extent, even if their institutions were not members of ELUNA. For
example, without being an institutional member, you could still
participate in the enhancement process, be on the ELUNA email discussion
list, and attend the conference (although you would pay a higher,
non-member registration). However, if you wanted to hold an official
office in ELUNA your institution had to be a member.
Membership is done on an institutional basis, not an individual basis. I
believe that the $150 fee is a yearly fee. I also have in my notes from
that meeting that membership fees for new, previous EndUser members
would be phased in, but I can't recall exactly what that meant.
There was also some discussion on what types of expenses the fees
covered, both for ELUNA and for the international organization, IGeLU.
The fees for joining IGeLU are about twice the amount of ELUNA, but
apparently IGeLU pays the travel expenses of their board members to
attend meetings. I assume that ELUNA board members have their travel
paid for by their institutions, although I don't know if that was
explicitly stated.
This is all either what I recall from memory, or what I have down in my
notes. If anyone else was there and has more to add, please do so. Also,
feel free to correct me if I got any of that wrong! :-)

Subject: [lawvoyage] EndUser to ELUNA migration?
Hi everyone,
This question is really for anyone who attended EndUser this year.
I was reading the email from Simon Huggard about "User Group changes
after EndUser." Particularly that our user group will be merged with
ELUNA. So to get more information, I went to the ELUNA website
http://www.elu-na.org/. Immediately I noticed that you have to join
ELUNA and that the cost of membership is $150.00.
Was this discussed at EndUser?
Does anyone know if that that is a one time enrollment fee, or is it
$150 each year?
Also, is that per individual or per "contract"?
Boy, I wish I had not missed this meeting!
Thanks for any information or hearsay...
