LawVoyage

Going through the agenda, minutes are below:

1. The Dinner after the joint reception was good. We had a group of 7 (including one III user) attend; we went to Zelo's Restaurant upon Alan's recommendation; it was good. We talked about Riva's on Navy Pier (for our dinner at VUGM) and decided that regardless of where the VUGM after-hours events are this April, we will go to Riva's.

2. Session ideas for next year:

3. There is interest in law users paying (each attendee) for Alan Manifold's Access/Voyager training: SU, Wake Forest, Univ of Kansas, OK City Univ, Univ of Pitts (maybe). Attendee would prefer to have it prior to VUGM 2002 (due to the high number of law schools in the area, i.e. facilities - as opposed to Orlando next July). Andrea will contact Alan about his pre-VUGM availability, and speak to Eloise or JoAnn about facilities at North Western.
IF OTHER LIBRARIES ARE INTERESTED IN TRAINING, PLEASE CONTACT ME.

4. Attendees agreed that two-year "terms" for the LAWVUG co-coordinators are a good idea (to facilitate smooth flow of AALL paperwork); with a new coordinator joining each year, old coordinator leaving each year. Thomas Heard (Northern Kentucky Univ.) volunteered to co-coordinate with me next year. WELCOME TOM! Next summer, someone will need to volunteer to replace me.

5. Cindy reported on doing EDI with another vendor (I don't remember who, though). She also made a plea that other law libraries implement EDI; it is so painless and the payoff is so great that we should all be doing EDI.

6. No one had other items or news from ALA or the LITA MFHD/holdings preconference; no one went.

7. Presentation by Barbara Ginzburg re: Univ. of Kansas wireless network and Voyager. Excellent presentation, now posted on http://law.pepperdine.edu/voyager thanks to BJ Segel. One thing that I got out of it was that the barcode wand must be laptop compatible, i.e. keybaordless wedge. Apparently, Brodart is the only place to get them.

8. Jane Burke brought Reeta Sinha (from Endeavor's serials development group) to listen to our discussion on the Law Enhancement List. Since time was limited, and since everyone was familiar with the enhancement list, we opted to go through the list and ask if anyone had any questions about the particular requests/issues. Small discussions occurred. After that we asked libraries to vote (one vote per the 12 law libraries represented here) based on "is this enhancement a mission critical enhancement, i.e. does not having the functionality so greatly impact you that it NEEDS to be resolved in order for your library to carry out their services?"

12/12 = Fuller implementation of the MARC format holdings fields
1/12 = Complete authorities validation algorithm
11/12 = Display controls at the component level
11/12 = Link from problem list to exact component
12/12 = Link form PO to CK-In component
7/12 = Piece level information better integrated into the acquisitions module
9/12 = Received status
6/12 = Copy anything
6/12 = Check-in call umber label w/o editing
1/12 = Webvoyage enhancements

We had a very good session where Reeta responded to our requests, asked questions for clarification, listened. Reeta confirmed that she would like to be sent a revised list (with the 11/12 and 12/12, as per Jane) that includes screen shots of these issues. Andrea will work on this. I CAN USE MORE EXAMPLES, PARTICULARY IF YOU HAVE SCREEN SHOTS.

Jane told us that she would find it quite helpful if the directors of the law libraries could meet to discuss "trends" in law libraries and how they affect Voyager, then communicate these trends to EIS. My sense was that she was looking for a Law Library "Safire Group"

9. I had to leave but there was a Demo/Presentation from Jane Burke on the 2001.1 release. Jane did say that it would be in beta at the end of July. She also asked for beta testers. There was no response from us and I explained that it was because most law libraries do not have control of the system, so are not in a position to offer this.

That's it in a nutshell. If you have any other comments or corrections, please let me know.

Thanks,
Andrea, co-coordinator for the 2001 lawvug meeting
